why doesn’t voldemort have a nose. Everyone knows that Voldemort is the nemesis of Harry Potter.
But who would guess that the Dark Lord doesn’t have a nose? It’s true – and it makes perfect sense once you consider everything we know about him.
Voldemort is a tragic villain. He was once Tom Riddle, school prefect, gifted in many areas and popular with his fellow students at Hogwarts.
Then one day he finds out he is a half-blood, something he previously despised, and his mother is killed for being a witch.
He turns from being someone who was close to becoming Head Boy into an evil maniac bent on destroying anyone who stands in his way or reminds him of his Muggle-born mum.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, losing his nose probably hurt more than anything else…
Voldemort is one of the most evil villains in literary history. He’s a man who will stop at nothing to achieve his sinister ambitions, no matter how many innocent lives he has to ruin in the process.
Though he lacks many redeeming qualities, there’s one thing he doesn’t have: a nose. But why?
Voldemort is described as being gaunt, pale and ghost-like—which is why it’s so strange that we never see his nose in any of the Harry Potter books.
For someone who makes such an impact on society, you would think that JK Rowling would find some sort of importance in including a description of Voldemort’s nose.
Instead, we only see him as this eerie shadow with red eyes and no other defining character traits.
Here are 12 reasons why Voldemort doesn’t have a nose.
Voldemort’s Dark Mark is literally his identity
The Dark Mark is probably Voldemort’s most prized possession. It is what identifies him as a Death Eater, and it is what allows his followers to summon him at any time.
It is his identity, and he probably has it tattooed onto his arm at some point. That mark was probably created with an incantation that would cause extreme agony.
It would require incredible willpower to endure this process and keep your sanity. No doubt, the pain would be so great that Voldemort’s nose would have been ripped off by it.
His nose was probably ripped off during the creation of the mark
We know that the creation of the Dark Mark was painful. We also know that Riddle was probably in a lot of pain as a result of losing his mother.
His nose may have been ripped off before he could even finish the incantation. Perhaps he was in such a frenzied state that he grabbed a scalpel and sliced his nose off without even realizing he was doing it.
We also know that Riddle’s desire to become a Dark wizard meant he probably experimented a lot in his youth.
His desire to become a sorcerer was so great that he was willing to tear his soul from his body to become more powerful.
The pain from losing his nose would’ve been too much to handle
Riddle was probably in so much agony that he might have passed out before finishing the incantation.
It’s possible that his nose was ripped off by the magic that was being exerted in the room.
His nose was probably part of the spell or ritual that created the Dark Mark. It was part of his own body, so it was probably torn off as a result of the spell.
He doesn’t want anyone to see his face or know what he looks like
Harry Potter is a young boy when Riddle becomes Voldemort. It is possible that the Dark Lord disguised himself as someone who he knew Harry would recognizes.
He may have even taken on the form of his father, the Muggle. Voldemort recognized that he had the power to change his appearance at will.
He probably used his magic to transform himself into James Potter, Harry’s father, so he could taunt Harry about being a half-blood.
Voldemort also used his magical abilities to change his appearance as a young boy, so he could get close to his Muggle neighbors.
He probably took on the form of a Muggle child so he could fit in and not be noticed.
He might be hiding scars and other disfigurements under the hood
Voldemort was a horrible child who was cruel to other children. He probably tortured countless Muggle children and animals when he was a child.
It is possible that he has scars and other disfigurements as a result of these incidents. He probably hid these beneath his hood as a child.
He may have also been self-conscious about his deformities and hid them under his hood. Perhaps his face is scarred or disfigured in some way.
It is possible that he has no nose or ears. Maybe he looks like some sort of weird, creepy creature without the hood to cover his face.
Or maybe he just doesn’t like having a nose
It is possible that Voldemort likes his appearance just the way it is. Maybe he just doesn’t like having a nose.
If you have ever had a nose that you didn’t like, you know how frustrating it can be to have to live with such a thing.
Throughout history, people have used all sorts of contraptions to hide their noses. Maybe Riddle decided to rip his nose off so that he wouldn’t have to worry about wearing a contraption to hide it.
He may have also been tired of being teased and having people mention it all the time.
The loss of his nose represents how he lost everything that was good in him
Voldemort was a boy once, and he had dreams and hopes. He wanted to attend Hogwarts and become a great wizard.
He was probably a gifted child, and his mother probably bragged about him to his Muggle father.
He was probably a kind child who loved his mother dearly and would never have thought about hurting or killing anyone.
Then his life was turned upside down. He finds out that he is a half-blood and has magical powers, which he hates.
His mother is killed and he transforms into a cruel, evil man. He loses his kindness and his hope for the future.
He loses everything that was good in him. He also loses his nose in the process.
He wants to scare people with his appearance
Voldemort is a crazy person with a warped sense of reality, so it makes sense that he would want to scare people with his appearance.
He probably wants to send a message that he is someone to be feared. He may also have a warped view on beauty and think that having no nose makes him more beautiful than he already is.
Voldemort is a vain man. He probably wants to appear as attractive as possible. Having a nose probably detracts from his good looks.
It may get in the way of his facial expressions, and it may make him appear less attractive to others.
Voldemort’s Inhuman Looks Are an Extension of His Evil Nature
Voldemort may have been born without a nose. His mother, Merope Gaunt, was a Muggle, so it is possible that he was born with some deformities as a result of her bloodline.
His Dark Mark may have ripped his nose off while he was creating it. It is possible that he has scars and other deformities as a result of his experiments as a child.
He may have just not liked having a nose and decided to rip it off to make himself appear more attractive.
He is a very vain man, and he probably wants to appear as attractive as possible. Having a nose may detract from his good looks.
He was cursed by Merope Gaunt
Merope Gaunt, Voldemort’s mother, was a witch. She probably cursed Tom Riddle when he was a child.
It is possible that she cursed him with an erumpent or exspurge hex. This hex causes a person’s nose to explode and fall off their face.
It is possible that Merope was so angry at Riddle for his cruel and abusive behavior that she used magic to hex him.
The hex may have done more than explode Riddle’s nose. It may have damaged his facial structure, scars, and other disfigurements. It may have transformed him into a hideous creature with no nose.
He turned himself into a horrid creature to gain power
Voldemort wanted more power, so he turned himself into a giant snake-like creature. It is possible that he created mutations on his face to make himself more hideous and evil-looking.
He may have done this so that people would be afraid of him and would follow his every command without question.
Perhaps he has no nose because he transformed himself into a creature without one. His appearance may have changed as a result of transforming himself into a horrid beast.
Or, Maybe He Was Born Without One? 🤔
It is possible that Voldemort was born without a nose. Maybe his mother was a squib and his father was a Muggle.
Maybe he was born without a nose as a result of his freakish genealogy. Maybe he was born with a deformation that made it impossible for him to have a nose. We know very little about Voldemort
Why doesn’t Voldemort have a nose? One theory is that he was born without one.
It’s hard to forget the first time we meet Voldemort in J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone –
his red eyes, hooked nose, pale skin and yellow-white hair are all characteristics that will never be forgotten by fans of the series.
But why does he not have a nose? A recent viral theory suggests that he was born without one…
The answer to this question depends on which theory you buy into
whether or not Voldemort actually existed and Harry Potter was only dreaming, or whether JK Rowling meant to write Voldemort as more of an allegory for Hitler.
If you go with #2, then no, Voldemort does not have a nose; at least not in our physical plane of existence—it’s likely that he only has his snake-like nostrils underneath his hooded face.
If you prefer #1, then yes, Voldemort does have a real nose; but rather than growing into it over time like Harry did, we’re expected to believe Voldemort was born (gulp) with just two nostrils out of place on his forehead!
First, let’s explain what Horcruxes are
according to JK Rowling, horcruxes are objects in which you hide part of your soul. The longer you keep a piece of your soul inside an object, the less likely it will be able to ever leave.
In other words, Horcruxes basically transform pieces of Voldemort’s soul into immortal beings trapped in objects like locket and ring, unable to escape or die even if Voldemort did manage to kill himself by slitting his own throat with Harry Potter’s Sword (we are talking about fictional stuff here).
The question we need to answer then is: why didn’t Voldemort ever create a Horcrux with his own nose? If Rowling never mentions it anywhere in her books, there must be an explanation right?
Is Voldemort immortal?
Voldemort is, in fact, immortal (if we define immortality as being free from death, decay and destruction).
It seems impossible for Voldemort to die—he has survived being hit with Avada Kedavra; all of his Horcruxes are enchanted so that they’re indestructible; and, because of his rebounding curse, every time he dies, he comes back to life again.
So why can’t Voldemort die? Most people think it’s because he created seven pieces of himself, which came to be known as the horcruxes.
But I believe there’s more going on than just that. Voldemort has no nose! When you look at Voldemort’s face, do you see anything resembling a nose? No.
The word voldemort actually means without a nose.
How many Horcruxes does he have
Voldemort has many dark secrets and plots, but there’s one particular mystery about him: He didn’t have a nose.
More specifically, Voldemort never got a chance to grow his nose, according to JK Rowling’s books Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.
Why would Voldemort need or want a nose? Well, Voldemort does not smell very good; in fact, he has the most dreadful voice, as portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in Harry Potter films — so having smell or an awful voice may be among Voldemort’s biggest concerns.
He (apparently) split his soul into seven pieces
The pieces of Voldemort’s soul weren’t scattered randomly across seven horcruxes; they were all placed in objects significant to either Voldemort or his life.
For example, one was hidden in his old school diary (Voldemort’s teenage years), while another Horcrux contained Ravenclaw’s Diadem (the object belonging to Voldemort’s closest friend).
The rest can be found in objects which hold significance to Death Eaters: Salazar Slytherin’s locket, Hufflepuff’s cup, Nagini and Harry Potter himself.
To destroy them all, Voldemort would have had to leave behind some very obvious traces—which raises questions as to why Voldemort didn’t make more than seven horcruxes!
He committed some pretty heinous acts
Voldemort committed some heinous acts during his reign of terror before meeting his end at Harry Potter’s hands in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.
But perhaps his most dastardly act happened well before then — when he killed his own Muggle family.
That’s right, folks: Voldemort wasn’t always Voldemort. In fact, according to JK Rowling, Tom Riddle was just an ordinary boy until he lived with his Muggle family and learned about love from them.
His bad deeds resulted in him receiving the nickname He Who Must Not Be Named
During his time at Hogwarts, his professor, Albus Dumbledore, believed that Tom Marvolo Riddle’s (Voldemort’s real name) arrogance and lack of regard for others meant it would not be long before he turned to dark magic.
He was right: Voldemort stole Riddle’s diary from Myrtle and used it to open Salazar Slytherin’s Chamber of Secrets, unleashing a monster which attacked
Muggle-born students at Hogwarts. The attacks caused great distress for two of Riddle’s fellow students, who were both killed by Harry Potter during their escape from danger.
This only added to Voldemort’s growing fear of death and desire for immortality – so much so that these became his primary goals in life when Lord Voldemort finally came into being years later.
Could his inability to grow a nose be related to his being evil
As Rowling revealed in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, Voldemort was born Tom Riddle
—the product of a union between an unloving father and an enchantress mother
—so it makes sense that Voldemort isn’t just missing out on out his own body parts, but also has few emotions or feelings for others.
Being mean-spirited to other students when we first meet him as Hogwarts students would indicate as much.
But even so, why would being born with such an inability to feel empathy lead him down such a dark path: a path marked by crime and murder? Maybe it has something to do with his upbringing.
An alternative hypothesis regarding his name and nose
Perhaps Voldemort lost his nose as a result of an attack by Death Eaters, rather than because of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s own choice, and thereby forced him to hide his face and wear his infamous snakelike mask.
However, there are other explanations for Voldemort’s pale appearance – some say that it is connected with his staying at Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley; others claim that Dumbledore used powerful Dark magic to keep him from dying when fighting him.
Whichever theory you believe, it’s no secret why Voldemort got such an evil name: Voldemort means flight from death, indicating fear of mortality and losing control over death or destruction…
